Dammit. Wondered why I hadn’t seen him in a while. Throat Cancer. For an actor with a voice like his–unable to work, and then having to wait for the final curtain in painful silence…that must have been a doubly hellish way to go.
He was one of the greats from that generation of British stage actors who came up right after Burton and O’Toole. Never got the accolades he deserved. He did here though, appearing in one of my earliest rants against the AGW Malthusians. An irascible Scot. He’ll be missed.

Look into the dragon’s eyes and despair!
Bummer.
I wish him godspeed to his reward !
His voice…that voice that could move me to…tears. Let’s go with that.
RIP
Rats. His portrayal of The Magician is iconic, his voice being a large part of it. “Sleeep……Dreeam!”
His part overshadowed even a half naked young Helen Mirren and that is saying something. Look at all the upcoming Lights with parts in that movie.
Another of my favorites was his Holmes in “The Seven Percent Solution.” Duvall, Arkin and a stunning Redgrave.
Wouldn’t it have been fun to sit at a table with Williamson and David Niven?
RIP, Sir
Patrick Steward was already bald in Excalibur. Damn, how old is Picard anyway? lol
Sorry about the moderation purgatory, LtC. Welcome to the puzzle house.
The funny thing about that movie is he and Mirren had just broken off a long relationship–and neither knew the other was in the cast.
Falconsword–That was (I think) Liam Neeson’s first movie. If not it was close, first thing I remember him in anyway.
