Mittens Economic Policy “Unexpectedly” Like The SCOAMF

Romney’s economic adviser says tax the shit out of gasoline to stop Global Warming

Consider the tax on gasoline. Driving your car is associated with various adverse side effects, which economists call externalities. These include traffic congestion, accidents, local pollution and global climate change…a tax exceeding $2 a gallon makes sense. That would provide substantial revenue that could be used to reduce other taxes. By taxing bad things more, we could tax good things less.

Great idea. Then we could all buy flaming Obamamobiles–because government control of the automotive sector is a good thing.

It’s all part of some Hobbsian/consumption/sin tax schizophrenia designed solely to change behavior, because the author–Harvard Economics Professor N. Gregory Mankiw–concedes that when you tax something you get less of it; in this case AGW and a mobile population (Bad Things).

Hey Einstein–if you get less of it, where the fuck will the tax revenue come from then? Oh yeah, I forgot. You just tax something else.

Did someone say Romney is inevitable?

Howzabout we tax the bullshit politicians and leave all the good things alone?

  2. But, but… he’s Teh Electables.
And George Will assures us he’s a REAL conservative.

  3. Why not just come right out and say it, Mittens: nationalize the gas companies. That way you can keep ALL the profits, and save Gaia.

Yeah, So?
